Video game review: Call of Duty Black Ops – Annihilation Pack
I wrote a few words on the last DLC pack released for Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops for Rave Magazine. I’m pretty much a Black Ops addict, hence I really love the addons.
CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS – ANNIHILATION PACK [MA 15+]
Developer: Treyarch/Activision.
Platform: PS3/360/PCAnnihilation wave
While the hardcore fans eagerly await the third instalment of Activision’s massively popular Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare series in November, Treyarch continue to offer COD fans gratification through its third downloadable content package for Black Ops, called Annihilation. Annihilation, following on from First Strike and Escalation, includes four new multiplayer maps and one new addition to the popular ‘Zombies’ mode.
The beautifully rendered Drive In transports players to an overgrown ’50s drive-in movie theatre with battle taking place in close quarters and at tight angles, meaning speedy and volatile engagements. Snipers will rejoice at the inclusion of Hazard, an open map set on a cliff-side golf course that affords little cover to those who try to brave the open central area. Elsewhere, Silo combines sniper-friendly environments and a lot of cover for those who prefer to run and gun. This map, along with Hazard, has the most exciting additions, whereas Hangar 18, a large generic map set in an air force hangar, lacks inspiration. Close quarter encounters can be rare, meaning it isn’t as interesting as its siblings. Treyarch have wisely included another Zombies map, something that greatly extends Black Ops’ appeal – Shangri-La is a significantly brighter-looking zombie map, taking place deep in the jungle; the addition of new types of enemies, such as napalm zombies and monkey zombies, and numerous secret areas for players to uncover means lasting value.
Annihilation proves a fun and well-conceived addition to Black Ops. While expensive (about $AU22 for the entire package), it’s clear that the map designers still care about providing bang for buck by offering up some fun multiplayer maps as well as innovative supplements for the Zombies mode.

DARRAGH MURRAY

Treyarch made the worst game I ever played! The knifing is bad, the sound when you shoot is off, single shoot wepons get you killed cuz slow fire rate. the way you have to buy every thing with cod points is dumb. Why can’t I just buy a camo and use it for all the guns I want that same camo on? But the zombies are good, that’s really only time I play that game.
