About

A place where I can write irrelevant anecdotes that make me sound like a pretentious git.

Well, I’m going to the Spunk records 10-year anniversary show in Bangalow on Monday the 21st of January. It’s a pretty incredible bill primarily due to Jens Lekman and Spoon playing. Jack Ladder, Holly Throsby, and Andrew Bird are also playing on the bill. Spunk have promised another international act, presumably who is one of their artists. Some quick research into who their artists are and I can say with some confidence that the prospects are salivating. I didn’t know this before but several international acts who are touring Australia at the moment, and are on the Spunk label include – Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire, and Built to Spill. Okkervil River will be here in late February to play the Laneway festivals, so there might be an oft-chance that they decided to come slightly earlier.

The cat is dead. Curiosity is the primary suspect.

  1. well i’ll see you there then! as we’re going to byron straight after BDO.

couple of extra notes on rumoured act tho - 1)heard the sufjan one at work the other day, but when i checked his website he’s sposed to be playing a show in japan on the same day, so prob safe to rule him out.
2)heard the arcade fire after talking to the rep from shock records at work today.
3)would assume you didnt’ look too far on the spunk roster (:P) or you may also have come across my personal prediction - joanna newsom - as she is playing shows 4 days later in sydney. as further evidence i also learnt today from a friend that apparently there are posters up in byron atm with her on them (possibly also mentioning spunk)

    ps i’m FKN STOKED!!!

  2. Hi Chewie. Ahh Joanna Newsom - while I have never heard her music, I know of her rep - looks to be a cracker of a show!

  4. So, who was the epic international act?

    Fenil

  5. Hi Fenil, it ended up being Joanna Newsom.

I was slightly disappointed, as I’m not a fan. I find her slight annoying. The overall gig was great though!
