About

A place where I can write irrelevant anecdotes that make me sound like a pretentious git.

I had the distinct pleasure to catch some snippets of the Australian Idol “britpop” episode last sunday night.

Naturally, I was expecting badly perform covers of songs from Blur, Oasis, the Verve, or Pulp. Surprisingly, the Australian music public received badly performed covers of the Police, the Beatles, the Kooks, and Queen, but also took some liberties with the definition of the term ‘britpop’. I think there was one Oasis song, and one Verve song. I think the Australian idol producers should do a bit more research next time and perhaps figure out that brit-pop refers to a specifc era and style of British music, and not just ‘british music in general’.
