Terrible Short Poet Alex “James Frain” Moss sends in this rather topical and contemporary ballad concerning former ABC reporter and presenter, Maxine McKew. Be warned! Its a bit of a tear-jerker.
“Maxine McKew
I love you,
Come into my house,
for a drink or two.
You’ve got foxy eyes,
and a toothy grin,
you’re running for the seat,
that John Howard’s in.
I remember when,
you were on TV,
asking obstinate questions,
with obstinate glee.
You had people ringing up,
the Lateline phones,
cause you’re ten times hotter,
than Tony Jones.
On the ABC,
You made a song a dance,
Unless your guests,
Took a liberal stance.
You’re not that young,
You’re no Helen of Troy,
But please call me,
If you need a toy boy.
Maaaaaxine!
You don’t have to put on the red light.
Those days are over,
You don’t have to sell your body to the night!”
Our thanks, Alex! Hopefully this will be the first step in a whole body of work dedicated to Maxine McKew.
