A quick comment concerning:
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21210392-2,00.html - US Anger Over Howard Comments
Even Republicans have criticised Mr Howard for interfering in US domestic affairs.
“I would prefer that Mr Howard stay out of our domestic politics and we will stay out of his domestic politics,” Texas Republican senator John Cornyn said.
I do think Howard’s comments were totally unnecessary. Every cynic knows that despite Obama saying “lets pull the troops out!” this doesn’t actually mean it will happen. Howard should know that broken election promises are part of modern politics.
I highlighted the comment above for another reason. As far as I’m aware, it is ok for the US to comment (or interfere) in the politics of any nation, if it feels so inclined (Bay of Pigs, Contra debacle, etc etc). Thus, why can’t we pass comment on theirs? Why can’t anyone pass comment on theirs? One might try to reason that domestic politics and foriegn policy are two entirely different beasts, but I don’t buy that for a second.
I could expand on this comment twenty fold, however I’ll just say that Senetor John Cornyn’s statement shows shades of blatant hypocrisy.
